THE DIGNITY BAG

IT TAKES A BIG BAG TO MAKE BIG CHANGE.

In almost every city in the world there are hard-working people who collect and sort refundable containers, ensuring that they are recycled effectively. In Canada they’re called binners. And they are an essential part of our country’s recycling ecosystem. In Montréal alone, they recuperate millions of aluminum cans every year. But their work is not recognized. Not valued. And not seen.

OUR GOAL

This bag not only helps binners do their work more efficiently, and more safely, it helps give them the dignity that they deserve. Our goal is to supply every working binner in Canada with their own bag. Dignity for all.

DESIGNED IN COLLABORATION WITH WORKING BINNERS.

The Dignity Bag was designed by No Fixed Address in collaboration with working binners. Our partner for the launch of the project was Les Valoristes Coopérative de Solidarité, a non-profit based in Montréal. Each bag is lightweight and tear-resistant. It holds up to 240 aluminum cans, with quick release drawstring at the top and adjustable straps. Safety features include high-viz straps and reflective elements to ensure visibility day and night.

The Dignity Bag wouldn’t exist today without our friends at Les Valoristes Coopérative de Solidarité in Montreal. Originally founded as Projet Consigne in 2005, they work every day with binners across the city, advocating for them on social, environmental, economic and societal levels.
